Improvement to properties

Adhesives based on acrylic monomers and oligomers, unsaturated polyester or vinyl ester resins, cured radically or by UV radiation, are often very brittle.

With Albidur®, based on a core-shell silicone rubber, toughened adhesives with a low viscosity can be formulated. No loss in modulus or glass transition temperature is found when using Albidur®, because it is a reactive silicone rubber particle dispersion.

How it works

The mechanism is exactly the same as described in chapter 4 for modified epoxy resin adhesives. The silicone rubber particles used in the Albidur® grades for acrylic, UP and VE resin adhesives have methacrylic groups grafted on the particle surface.
